United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women is to be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

We have several unique circles of women who would love for you to visit. Below is information about each group.  Please contact the circle chairpersons directly or call the church office.

Dorcas Circle

The Dorcas Circle meets the second Monday of each month at 2:00 pm.  The location is rotated each month to a different member’s home.  The meeting is opened with greetings followed by a program prepared by one of the members.  Refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed by all.  Our dues go to the OUMW who meet every quarter and for our projects and charities.  The missions and charities that we support include sending Easter and Christmas cards to former members unable to attend Church functions as well as those in Rest Homes or those who have moved away.  We donate to many charities, such as Haiti, Paraguay, UMCO, Methodist Home for Children, Multiple Sclerosis, Relay for Life, High School Graduates, the Mildred Daw Memorial Fund, the Adam Harris Memorial Fund, the Sandy Edwards Memorial Fund, Missions to Haiti by Mike Miller, and Missions to Nicaragua by Wendy Davis.  Refreshments and fellowship is enjoyed by all.   We would love to welcome you to our small group.  For more information call Frances Rosnek at (252) 249-0404.

Friendship Circle

The Friendship Circle meets on the second Tuesday of each month at Brantley’s Restaurant at 6:00 pm for dinner and Christian fellowship.  For more information call Diane McDaniel at (252) 249-1618.

Sand Dollar Circle

The Sand Dollar Circles meets in a member’s home on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm.  A devotion is shared by the host followed by cares and concerns followed by a business meeting offering opportunities to participate in fund raisers for local and district missions.

Projects include our famous Soup and Sandwich luncheon which supports the Relay for Life.  We also support our local Camp Don Lee, provide a lunch for our Lunch and Learn program, provide supplies for missions, and many other projects.   President Sheri Hale and members would love for you to attend a meeting and share Christian fellowship among women.  For more information call Sheri Hale at (252) 745-4611.

Sarah Veal Circle

The Sara Veal Circle meets the second Tuesday of each month.  The meeting location is published in the church newsletter and is held either in a member’s home or in the Fellowship Hall.  Coffee and catch up time starts at 9:15 am with the regular meeting starting at 9:30 am.  Meetings are opened with a devotion followed by discussion of circle business and end with uplifting “thoughts to ponder”.  We cordially invite anyone who is interested to attend our meetings.

Sara Veal Circle supports many local and district missions…among them are Camp Don Lee, Jerusalem Fund, Feed The Kids Program, Children’s Theater, Hope Clinic, local Ambulance Fund; and making school, sewing, and heath kits for MERCI.  We have also adopted a child from Paraguay.  The circle hosts one of Prime Time’s Lunch and Learn luncheons during the year, usually November.  A fund raiser is held once a year to raise money to support our missions.   Please contact Catherine Baxley (252) 249-0983, if you would like to learn more about us!

Sojourners Circle

The Sojourners’ Circle meets on the 2nd Monday of each month, Sept. – June, usually at 2 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  We begin with a devotional &/or study and light refreshments.  New members are always welcome.

In addition to quarterly dues to the NCUMW, we donate to many local charities, as well as support a student at the UM school in Paraguay (CERMA Project). Local and state-wide charities include contributions to the clothes closet at the primary school, cookies for shut-ins at Christmas and Valentine’s Day, as well as cookies for college students during exams.  In addition, we contribute to Camp Don Lee, Relay for Life, The UM Children’s Home, the Jerusalem Fund, and the OUMC Thanksgiving baskets.

New members are always welcome.  For more information, please call Mary Duffie-249-2990 or Joan Lilley – 249-2690.
