Vision & Mission Statements

Dear Friend,

Welcome!  We have designed this site to connect you to worship, to service, to a nurturing community of faith, and to a rich, dynamic belief in Jesus Christ.  May these pages spark your interest and reveal your connecting point with the life and ministry of Oriental United Methodist Church.  We invite you to join us and look forward to befriending you in person.  It will be a real joy to worship with you, to serve with you, and to share in the wondrous love of Jesus Christ.

Our history as a caring community of faith dates back to our beginnings in 1887 and continues as our distinguishing feature today.  Though founded by families with a long-time residential history in the village of Oriental, in recent years many persons moving into our community from far-distant places have found fellowship in our church.   They have made our church richer through gifts of talent, leadership and commitment.  Our unique United Methodist heritage of global vision and personal faith draws us together for worship and study, and sends us out to show God’s love through deeds of service.

Oriental United Methodist Church is a Christ-centered community of faith, a beacon for help, healing and hope.

Jesus called his disciples, “the light of the world.” Every act of loving kindness, like a beacon, offers help, healing and hope.  Thus the lighthouse is our symbol, reaching into the darkness to share the love of Jesus.

What need in our community tugs at your heart?  It is there that you will find your calling, your passion to serve.  We want to empower you to follow God’s call for you and to share the love of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

The mission of Oriental United Methodist Church is to Share the Love of Jesus Christ by empowering our community of faith, igniting passions, and nurturing gifts.

Jesus taught us that even a simple act, like giving someone a drink of water, is an example of  sharing the love of God.  Everyone has something to offer, and God has a calling for everyone.  Our mission is to help you find your passion, your calling, and to nurture your gifts for service.  Thus, our task is to empower people like you with the necessary resources to employ your calling and your gifts to serve God in acts of loving kindness to each other and our community

By celebrating the power of God’s spirit that is alive in God’s people, we hope to continue to be a bright beacon for help, healing, and hope.

Peace,

Keith Sexton, Pastor
